My name is Robert Hughes, I am an artist from New Hampshire.
I carve witches from Cypress Knees and decorative wooden
walking canes with various designs like Witches, Indians and
Wizards. The canes are carved from other types of wood like
Willow, Hickory and Curly Wood. My unique designs are highly
detailed
Witch Carvings
For my Witch carvings, I use only the finest quality Cypress
Knees. I personally carve and paint each piece by hand with
extreme detail. Each witch or cane has been named and is
also signed and dated.
A Cypress Knee is a distinctive structure in a root of a
Cypress tree. The function of the Cypress Knee is unknown,
but they are generally seen in swamps in Southern US.

Decorative Carved Walking Canes
For my decorative
walking canes, I only use Willow limbs, Hickory, and Curly
wood. That way each one has it's own character, making it a
one-of-a-kind piece.
I have been freestyle carving for many years. With free
style carving there are no boundaries, no rules, just a lot
of details. I like to use glass eyes in all the snakes,
pumpkins and faces on the wooden walking canes and witches.
When you look at the witches and the canes with all the
details, you will find something new every time, so be sure
to look closely. All the painting was done by airbrush and
paint brushes with acrylic paints. My work is signed and
dated.
